Also referred to as Degenerative Joint Disease (DJD), Degenerative Disc Disease (DDD), spinal degeneration is one of the leading causes of disability in the Elderly, however may be seen in younger demographics. Spinal degeneration can be caused by abnormal biomechanics, poor posture, trauma, obesity, repetitive joint motion as well as aged related alterations (i.e diminished nutrient supply, decreased joint tensile strength). Symptoms of spinal degeneration include may include a progressive dull ache within the affected joint, morning stiffness that improves with light exercise, however worsens with excessive exercise.
